Why Bordered Psychology?
‘Does it refer to borderline? … sure, ok’.
‘… inside the border” … sure, ok’
‘… outside the border … why not?’
The truth is that Bordered Psychology was conceived following a conversation with a client. I had been canvassing client opinions as to a proposed name change. I had chosen two psychologically focussed themes that clients were invited to reflect on. And then came a question ...
‘Why aren’t you choosing a name about something you’re interested in?’ Why indeed …
Outside of psychology, my other passion is ‘the boys’. My Border Collies. After sitting on it for a while, I decided that I quite agreed with my client and Bordered Psychology was born.
Many people know that companion animals are capable of the most amazing unconditional love. They teach us things. Having a dog has been shown to have psychological and health benefits See …
For me, apart from getting me fitter and more active than I was, more sociable, and a lot more furry, my boys have each brought a new quality to my life ...
Toby (upper right) has taught me everything I need to know about resiliency. A thyroid condition that was first detected when he was a puppy. He then went blind before he was 7 years old. He still swims on his own, runs off lead where safe and is the first to offer you compassion. Better yet, he has taught me to 'shake it off' - when you bump into life's obstacles, shake your head and body and move on. Sadly, Toby has now passed away. He will never be forgotten.

Jack (lower left) has taught me to run and change direction. Interested in everything, he is a 'new soul' where everything is something to look at and investigate. He is also the most independent and gentle.

Timmy (lower right) teaches me about balance. He runs amok with his spirit, and knows how to lie still. Everyone is a friend. He has a long rope and will let a lot happen before he needs to respond. However, he is no push over. He can and will let you know when the line has finally been breached. Balance.

And then there is Sam. Sampson. Sammy. Gone now but never forgotten. His patience and loyalty, his calm spirit and his running. Remind me, if you're interested, to tell you about the beach and the ball. Now free. Thanks my friend. You taught all that knew you what true love was and is. Missed for ever. Forever first.

And that is why Bordered Psychology is a thing.
